Billy_Buchanan_and_Fusebox_Promo_PicIn all my years of living, I’ve learned one thing. There are always going to be people in our lives that we don’t get along with.

Just recently, I got in a disagreement with an associate of mine. We just couldn’t see eye to eye on a particular situation, and decided to agree to disagree. During this whole ordeal, I had to be honest with myself about something. I don’t like this guy very much, and I don’t think he likes me very much either. And you know what? That’s ok, because we do LOVE each other in Christ! Although we have different personalities and different opinions about things, we respect one another. We look out for each other, and we care for one another’s needs.

The Bible never instructs us to like everybody in our lives, but it does instruct us to “love our neighbor as ourselves.” Most of us make sure that our own bellies are fed, that we have a roof over our heads, and that we have the basic necessities of life. That’s what we should be doing for the people in our lives…even those we don’t like very much. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 spells it out nicely, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

God knows better than anyone that I can be a very unlikable guy at times. Thank goodness that He still LOVES me.
