"Christ Alone" by Billy Buchanan

A couple Sundays ago, a very nice lady approached me after church. She complimented me on how much she feels I’ve brought to the church ever since I started my position as worship director there. She went on and on about how sincere and honest she feels I am in my worship and speech. I was extremely humbled by her words. The whole time she was talking, I was thinking to myself, "Do you know who you’re talking to ma’am? I’m Billy Buchanan, the chief of sinners. I have done things, thought things, and said things that are appalling to God." But I just smiled. I never know what to say when people compliment me.

I know in my own heart, that it’s not me that they’re being drawn to. It’s Christ in me. These two scriptures completely sum up how I feel. Romans 3:10-11, "There is no one righteous, not even one: there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God…" 2 Corinthians 10:17-18, "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord. For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends."

After the nice lady finished, I said "Thank you for your kind words, but Christ alone gets all the glory." I’m so thankful that He has chosen to bless so many people through a wretch like me.
