![]() After 13 years and six albums, Christian urban-pop sensation Out of Eden is ending their journey together. Through many years of singing and praising God, sisters Andrea, Danielle and Lisa have been blessed to have a career filled with awards, over one-and-a-half million albums sold, and a following of amazing fans. Danielle Kimmey reflects, "Now that our 13-year career is coming to an end, I can sit and look back with amazement at what God has done - gave us a platform on which to speak and minister to a generation." Their latest and final release as a group, appropriately and simply titled The Hits is their inspiring farewell to their fans. The album starts off with the track "Lovely Day." Once a hit song by Bill Withers in 1977 and covered over the years by such artists as Luther Vandross and Hootie and the Blowfish, and then on the first album released by Out of Eden in 1994. Cleverly, the group sings the song identically to the way Withers sang it in '77 with the exception of one little word. Lines like "When I wake up in the morning, love" now sing, "When I wake up in the morning, Lord." Their new pop rendition brings on a new feel and a totally new meaning to the song. Listening to the first track is almost reminiscent of a musical sound like that of the Spice Girls; female vocals harmonizing in an overwhelming pop track. All "Girl Power" aside, it's a guilty pleasure worth indulging in because the tracks only get better. The second track, "More Than You Know" originally from their second album is introduced with the claim of being "from an R & B group, but with more futuristic, harder stuff." You can already hear the growth of the group from the first to the second track. They lost that easygoing bubble gum pop feel and gained a much more mature and jazzier rhythm. Moving on down, when you reach the middle of the album, you can really hear the groups urban/hip-hop feel developing, with tracks like "Different Now" and "Love, Peace & Happiness," tracks from their fourth and fifth albums, respectively, that have upbeat tempos and fun beats. The girls themselves have written many of the songs on their albums. They give messages of hope and God's love and like the track "Soldiers," written by all three sisters, which mixes spiritually driven lyrics with a hip beat. It's a great song to get up and dance to, but at the same time, delivers a strong message saying it's okay to be a Christian. Well you know there's a reason The album begins to wrap up with the song "God Will Take Care of You." With its smooth flow the song showcases the girl's vocal talents. The beautiful lyrics reach out with inspiration and show the girls undying devotion to God. For more information on Out of Eden visit their official website at: www.OutofEden.com. |
