Newsboys' second venture into recording music, Hell is For Wimps, is an album which endeavors to motivate believers into proclaiming the name of Christ. The music is upbeat and guaranteed to make any fan smile as they ponder how far the band has come.


The album opens with the gently pulsing guitar rift to "Stand Up For Jesus", which gives promise of good music, especially for the style emulated. "Simple Man" presents a different musical approach - soft and quiet, the song paints word pictures in the mind of clouds and flames.


"Ten Thousand Miles" is one of the most beautifully composed songs on the album and carries some of the most mature lyrics. The lyrics are taken from Philippians 4:11-13, "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength."


The album bounces back into "Something Missing", complete with a Shakespearian quote, and moves into the slower "Get Up for Love". This track is motivating people to share Christ out of love for our fellow man and for our Creator, and it presents the selfishness of an "island life in the sun."


The album closes with the beautifully composed "Victory", a simplistic song of praise declaring, "We have victory through Jesus!" The music on this song is capturing and compelling while the lyrics have a definite vibe of Pauline epistles.


Overall, the album is well done, even if it is not what the average Newsboys fan is well acquainted with. Any hard-core fan will want to be in possession of this CD, if not for the actual music, for the sake of seeing the evolution of an accomplished band.
