It opens boldly with "Believe," one of the louder songs off the album in which Davis conveys his personal beliefs and states that "A man without a creed, is a man in need, he's like an angel trying to fly with broken wings." He goes straight from this song into "Crush of Love" which makes you ponder the effects that love can have - how sometimes love can hurt. "There's more to love than you can see, it leads you here then makes you bleed." Speaking of bleeding, Davis' song "Bleed" is an amazing track, questioning the purpose of our suffering. "Why do I have to bleed? Why do I have to scream? Why do I have to be tore down before I can believe?" Good question. For an answer he suggests that listeners report to their Bibles. "Velveteen" is a beautiful song based on the children's book "The Velveteen Rabbit." The lyrics paint a picture in the mind and the mood is set by the tone. The vocals on this track are especially well done and touching. The album closes with a remake of Todd Rundgren's "Love is the Answer." The song is well suited to end an album filled with questions, prayers and challenges as it offers a simple rule for the problems in life: love is the answer. Oh, and for all those who sit and ponder the lyrics to "Burning Another Page", Davis would divulge only that it's about relationships and wanting to remove the things in yourself that you don?t like. He adds that "If I gave you all the answers, that wouldn't leave much room for your own imagination." |
