The sophomore album of the Colorado based band, Foolish Things, is one for them to be proud of. Despite being released independently, the strong melodies and powerful lyrics of Even Now will help get it the recognition it deserves. The album starts out with “Shooting in the Dark”, which features some very nice pitches throughout the entire song. The continuous, solid guitar strums are classic “Foolish Things sound” and overall, the song’s sound reminds me of “Who Can Compare” from their debut CD. "Who’d You Put In Charge," track two, is reminiscent of Jars of Clay’s sound and discusses the consequences of putting Satan in charge of instead of God. Only “time will tell if you’ve chosen well.” The first single of the album, “Even Now” slows up the overall sound a bit. The beautiful melody and lyrics help portray a powerful message that “He hasn’t left you out to dry, even now.” The band helps us realize through this song that no matter what we’ve done or what we’ve gone through, “Even now, we haven’ left His watching eye.” It’s beautiful, and hits right where it needs to. Just like their first CD, my favorite off this album is a song written from the perspective of God. Songwriter and lead singer Isaac Jorgensen proves his immense talent with the piano-driven “Love Chained Me Here.” In it, Jesus pleads. He wants to be with us, but He can’t move until we come to Him. “It frightens me to know you could stay or go, I’d love you just the same.” The song tugs at you heartstrings, but not in the sappy, cheap way. It is a reminder that Christianity is a relationship - it takes two people to make it work. Through this song, Jesus reminds us, “You and I were made to be together.” “Keep Us Together” is a prayer through music. We all go through it – a relationship gone bad, a falling out with a family member, a fight with a friend. The beautifully written prayer to Jesus begs for Him to “find us a way to keep us from falling apart.” Applicable to virtually everyone, we are reminded that “we are a fragile breed,” and sometimes all it takes is a miracle to get us back on our feet. Even Now also includes live favorite, “Fly,” a re-mixed version of “Fight” from their indie debut release, and “Let Go”, a song encouraging us to not live in fear and walk in grace before we run out of time. A year and a half after the release of their debut album, Foolish Things still comes out strong with the release of their second album, Even Now. Staying faithful to their signature sound and profound lyrics, you are sure to enjoy these songs just as much, if not more, than their first. Download your copy from iTunes and listen for yourself! It will be exactly what you need to hear. |
