By Elena B. ccmBuzz: Thanks for taking time out to chat with us today! What can you tell us about your new album? How does it compare to your previous work? Jessie: I'm excited about my debut album and the way it turned out. Sound-wise I would describe it as pop/rock with an uplifting message. I hope this record will not only offer hope to those who hear it but also be encouraging, relevant and identifiable. ccmBuzz: I noticed you co-wrote all of the songs on this album. How important do you think it is for an artist to write at least some (if not all) of their own lyrics, the way you did? (Do you think it affects the way an artist sings a song if it's someone else's words and not their own? Is it as genuine? Etc.) Jessie: I think it's very important for an artist to write or have input in what songs they sing. I personally want to express who I am or how I feel about things, and lyrics are a way for me to do that. ccmBuzz: Tell us about your experience while working with Scott Davis. Jessie: Scott is great! We have been working together for about three years, so we know each other really well and that helps our work ethic. He's one of the most talented, patient & determined people I've ever met. Making this record was truly a blast! ccmBuzz: Which song means the most to you, lyrically, and why? Jessie: Every one of my songs means so much to me. As of right now, "Stand Out" seems to be speaking to me the most. Being true to who you are is so important. I want to make a difference. In order to make a difference you have to be different. Differences stand out. ccmBuzz: I read that you're the only "Faith Based" artist signed to Midas Records. Is that still the case? (Have they signed any other Christian artists?) And is that ever difficult for you - being the only CCM artist on the roster? What are the pros and cons? Jessie: No, I'm still the only "faith-based" artist signed to Midas. It never gets difficult. I actually enjoy it because it makes me feel like one of a kind. It has been a very enjoyable experience. ccmBuzz: You're also an actress, right? How do you find time to juggle both your acting career and your music career? Which one comes first and how do you choose? Jessie: You know I do love acting as well as music, but music is my first love. Right now I'm focusing on succeeding in the music industry. ccmBuzz: I imagine many teens would love to be in your position - a successful musician at a younger age than most. What advice would you give to those people who might be striving for that same success? What's the most important thing you've learned from it all, so far? Jessie: Dream big, keep the faith, and never give up! First and foremost, it's so important that you are doing what you feel God had called you to do. I think I've learned that if you are faithful to God and follow what He has for you, He will bless you abundantly. ccmBuzz: If you had one chance to make an impression on someone, what's the one thing you would want them to remember you for? Jessie: I would want to be remembered as having a real, genuine Christ-like spirit. ccmBuzz: What's going on for you and your band in the coming months? What can your fans look forward to? Jessie: I actually have a promo tour planned for the first three weeks in June. I'm super excited to finally say that my record will be in stores! You can check my website www.JessieDaniels.com and also www.myspace.com/jessiedaniels for more info about those and what is to come! ccmBuzz: Thanks for talking with us today! Congrats on the new album and good luck in all you do! |
